Commission done for me by the superb marskels! (She’s still taking commissions, I think, so you might want to check out this post.)
I asked for Clyde and Craig from South Park cosplaying Thor and Loki, which is something I got in my head after I saw The Avengers. I love this so much I don’t even know where to start!
Okay, well, the first thing that caught my eye was Craig/Loki’s hand smushing into Clyde/Thor’s face, and then Clyde/Thor’s hand holding onto one of Craig/Loki’s horns as he reaches for the “stolen” Mjölnir.
That just feels so right, and I think marskels really nailed both the South Park kids and the Marvelverse characters they’re playing here, and the dynamics between them.
There’s a little roughhousing to their play but it’s definitely play, not antagonistic or even really aggressive—even though Craig’s head is inclined forward, I don’t have the impression he’s being pulled violently; similarly, his hand on Clyde’s face is open, rather than a closed fist, and seems to be a pushing into instead of a slap.
The thing that makes it perfect, of course, is that they’re both smiling. I didn’t make it part of the request and I could see a lot of artists going for a less emotive Craig, but that’s probably my favorite thing about this. When I commented to marskels that I love seeing Craig have a good time (and Clyde too, of course), she said:
a smiling Craig is inevitable when hanging out with Clyde <3
That’s just how I like to think of them, and I can’t stop smiling now myself! I don’t pretend to try to justify it with canon, but I have such a thing for these boys together, whether as friends or boyfriends or something in between and undefined. That last is what I asked for here, and I think it’s what I got: two boys who obviously love each other, the nature of their love maybe a little ambiguous and something they’re not at all interested in clarifying. That’s how I like to think of Thor and Loki, too, especially when they were kids—which just sends this over the top.
(Thank you ever so much, kels! ♥)
